ASTM protocol

We are considering a ASTM interface to Data Innovations Instrument Manager product.  We are wondering if

anyone is willing to share an ASTM PDL or willing to share their expertise in pointing us in the right direction in creating one.

What sort of PDL for ASTM?  The only specialized PDL I remember writing for ASTM was when I had to interface to a modem many years ago.

The way we normally deal with ASTM is to normalize it to an HL7 variant.

The PDL, if any, you would need would be dependent on the transmission protocol being used

According to the spec document the are using ASTM E 1381-91 with TCP/IP and the messages enclosed by control characters forming a block, such as: ddddCS.   Normalizing to HL7 is the plan but I need to get the message into the engine.  Here is their communication example:

I don’t have a PDL readily availabe for this but it should not be hard to write.

Looks like it includes a checksum as well
