We have a some internal threads set up on a few of our sites. Recently we had an issue with messages getting, ‘stuck’ , in the queue. The connection was up, but nothing was processing. I have seen this problem before when a thread experiences an extended period of time when no messages are sent/received. I have an alert in place for those types of issues. However, this problem occurred with an ADT thread that receives messages no longer than 3 minutes a part.
Has anyone in the cloverleaf community experienced this type of issue ? What type of alert could I set up that would send an email to notify the team of the problem. I tested the latency options as well as xlate options in the alert configurator. Neither was successful.

    TIA

Do the logs indicate any issues?

        Paul,
Thanks for the quick response. I took a peek at the log file. It didn’t shine any light on what the error was.

Are you able to resolve by stopping/restarting thread?

I’ve experienced this issue with outbound threads for several systems.  The receiving system is not sending ack/nak msg so timeout occurs.  Cloverleaf will attempt to resend the message until an ack/nak is received.

Sometimes we have to stop/restart the interface on the receiving system.  Sometimes stopping/restarting Cloverleaf thread resolves the issue.

For those problem systems, I’ve set up an “AND” alert.

      IF

      1. more than 5 messages queued (waiting to be sent)
      2. and thread is “up” (connected)
      3.  and we haven’t received an inbound msg (the ack/nak) in 10 minutes

If all these are true, the “AND” alert prestarts the thread.

        Jerry,

The issue was resolved after a stop/start of the interface. My team wants to be proactive and get to the issue promptly, (before irate users call and threaten to burn down our houses 🙂    )
I’m going to test your AND solution. I never done one, but it seems like a winner.

        Thanks,
        Carl Tosi

        Jerry,

How do you set up an AND alert ? I see the option in the drop down box. How do you  connect two, (or more) , conditions ?

        thanks,
        Carl Tosi

It will be 4 alerts total.  I’ve included an attachment with screen shots.

The initial 3 alerts will be used as the “source” for your AND alert.

You’re welcome buddy.  Let me know how it works out for you.

One thing though, I’m surprised that the log didn’t show anything.  I would think that you would find something in the log stating “Timed out while awaiting replies on thread. Resending reserved OB Message“.
