5.8 and msgread problems

Has anyone else experienced any problems with msgread in version 5.8?

Basically msgread using the RAW option does not read binary files (like JPEGs PDFs etc). It reads ASCII text files with no problem.

It works with binary files when I change the option from RAW to EOF, but we need to know why RAW no longer works as it did in 5.6 which what we are currently on.

  Starting with version 5.7, there were changes made to Cloverleaf to improve the support of internation character data in messages. This can cause problems for interfaces that send raw binary data.
  
  There’s information in the release notes and in the manual under Reference Guide/TCL Extensions/International Character Data Support.

  We just installed 5.8 rev5 and there is a new field for every thread called Encoding. If you have this field, select bypass, and all your binary file problems go away, at least mine did. Make sure to do it on inbound and outbound threads.
