      United Healthcare has requested to receive X12 278 Notifications from our hospital, version 50010. I have never worked with X12 formatting, so this has been a learning experience. We are at Cloverleaf 5.5 version, which does not have this format available, so I have had to build the 278 variant from the UHC specifications. Our HIS system does not have the functionality to send X12 278N messages, so I have built an xlate that will convert the appropriate ADT HL7 messages to the X12 278 transaction set format. However now I need to know if there are scripts available to wrap this transaction set with the Interchange Control and Functional Group header and trailer segments.

          Cathy,

          I don’t know if Cloverleaf(R) 5.5 has the 5040 X12 definition but if it does that is what I used without modification in Cloverleaf(R) 5.6.

          where a lot of discussion regarding the UHC 278 has taken place and hopefully we can concentrate all discussion there.

          There is talk therein of some available procs.

          There are some procs provided by Healthvision – but you may need some more. Look in the Cloverleaf docs for more information regarding the X12 package.

            Cathy, we are using the same version (cloverleaf 5.5) as you.  I was able to obtain the 5040 specs Jim is refering to. I tried to import them using the Import Specs menu Item. It’s located on the x12 configurator menu bar File/import specs.  However no such luck.  I called tech support and our sales rep and got no direction on this, looks like an upgrade is in order.

            Would you be willing to share the 278 variant you wrote?  I could help with the wrapper tcl procs.
