I’m pretty new to X12, but here’s what I found. There is a transaction type in the 4010 definitions called a 997 (Functional Acknowledgement). The 997 can be used kind of like an HL7 ACK message when something else will not be returned right away.
For example, we are using an X12 270 query that returns a 271 response. The application that sends the 270 expects to get a 997 back as an acknowledgement right away. When the 271 response is available, that is sent to the application on a different connection.
You should be able to find the 997 format if you create a new translate and configure it to use 004010 with message 997. Then you can go into the translate tool and display the fields.
