I don’t know if you received an answer to this or not yet, but I had the same problem back in July, 2004 – here was the response from Quovadx support:
The issue that i think your experiencing was caught awhile back and was fixed in 3.8.1P Rev6 and it looks like your running Rev4. There was a problem running 3.8.1P and 5.3 on the same box on windows. So if you upgrade to Rev6, you should be ok..
