          David,

          Yes use that item to define multiple servers. You need more than just the IP Address however. Check the DataDirect documentation for details as to what goes in there.

          The way it works is when you issue a connect request the primary connection information is tried first and if that fails then each of the alternates are tried in order. Only if all of them fail will you get notified of the failure.

          You can affect the order by deploying load balancing in the connect string – we have not seen any need to do so thus far but it is there in case needed.

            I can’t find documentation relevant to the alternate server. Do you have an example of odbc.ini using alternate server.
