      I wanted to double check if I can upgrade from cloverleaf 5.6 to 5.8 without having to step thru an install of 5.7?

      I’m running on P7 IBMs and will be going from cloverleaf 5.6 running on AIX 5.3 to cloverleaf 5.8 running on AIX 6.1.

      For those that have already made this journey please tell me I don’t have to step thru Cloverleaf 5.7 to do this.

      Of course, tell me if I have to but I’m hoping not.

      I thought I had been told this wasn’t necessary but a recent conversation has me wanting to double check on this.

            Russ:

            You will be ok.  I have inserted the caveat about upgrading from previous releases for the Integrator from the online help in 5.8.5.

            Warning:  if you plan to run dual roots or not reboot your server after installing 5.8 read the important instructions for resetting shared memory and semaphores for AIX only.  Once done 5.8 engines must always be started first in toto!  But only if you will run dual roots.

            Here is the vendor section on upgrades:

            Verify that you have the correct install procedures. If you have a version later than 3.3.0P installed, use the Update Install Procedures for Cloverleaf

              Thanks for the feedback.

              I plan to do a scratch install of cloverleaf 5.8 on a fresh AIX 6.1 LPAR on our P7.

              Then I will NSF mount read only the cloverleaf directires from our AIX 5.3 LPAR running cloverleaf 5.6.

              Then each cloverleaf root will be running on separate boxes but make it possible for me to do hcirootcopy of the cloverleaf 5.6 sites on my cloverleaf 5.8 box.

              I did this approach with the last cloverleaf upgrade and it worked beautifully.

              I wasn’t sure if I could get away with doing a hcirootcopy from cloverleaf 5.6 to cloverleaf 5.8 without stepping through cloverleaf version 5.7.

              So that is good news to hear that extra step will not be necessary.

              Often after upgrading to a new version of cloverleaf I need to run some conversion routines in the past.

              I’m wondering which conversion scripts if any people might suggest I run after doing a cloverleaf 5.8 hcirootcopy of a cloverleaf 5.6 site.

                One word of mouth comment I got was that they heard that the alert format changed since 5.6 and I might need to run a utility to modify the alert file formats.

                If anyone knows anything about this, I would like to hear about it as one of the possible conversion scripts I might want to run after doing a cloverleaf 5.8 hcirootcopy of a 5.6 site.

                  Russ:

                  A picture is worth more than a bloated email:  sample of new alert layout below. Note: new higher level key = Alert.  Newline delimited.  We submitted Case#94165 where alerts with & did not fire anymore – remove them.  Event time supported however new range time better.  Error on old event time specification.  Alas:  I do not recall how we converted our old alert files! Slipping up in my old age…

                  {ALERT

                     { NAME {TRDocORX8003 DOWN} }

                     { GROUPS TRD }

                     { VALUE status }

                     { SOURCE TRDocORX8003 }

                     { WITH 1 }

                     { COMP {== down} }

                     { FOR {nmin 10} }

                     { THREAD_ONLY true }

                     { WINDOW {* * * * * *} }

                     { ACTION {

                         { notify {} }

                     } }

                  }

                    According to an email from Bob today, I’m saved if after doing an hcirootcopy of a site from cloverleaf 5.6 to 5.8 I open the default.alrt file in the IDE and save it, the conversion will take place automatically upon saving.

                    Thanks for the heads up and solution Bob.
