I have some alerts set up but the don’t seem to be firing.  I ran the “test” alert configuration tab on the Site Preference.  I get the test email and page fine, but when I try to do some testing, nothing.  Is there anyplace I can check behind the scenes that would let me know if it’s an Alert issue or a Mail Server issue?

    Thanks.

I am including a shot of our process status alert.

      Greetings,

Not sure what you exactly mean by “testing” in this context.

Here is my stab at assistance for you.

Sometimes I will look at the log files in the “$HCISITEDIR/exec/hcimonitord/” directory for clues.  The engine will create files that contain error details.  For example, I found at one time a file called “hcimonitord_alert2email.log” that contained details of an alert that I had configured incorrectly for email.

Log files “alerts.log”, “hcimonitord.log” and “hcimonitord.err” can prove useful.

      Hope this helps you out.

So what we, meaning a co-worker found out was, with 5.8 the the monitor daemon needs to be cycled when the alert config is changed.

      Corey,

I find that interesting as in looking at the 5.8 hcimonitord log after saving alert configuration changes, the Reload message indicates either success or failure.  So far we have not had your experience.

Will stay tuned for future revelations on this topic!
