ODBC connection question…

      We use ODBC to query a stored procedure on an Oracle database.   Our ODBC proc utilizes a “connect at startup” method and we maintain a constant connection.   We also have a replicated database that we use to failover in the event we lose connectivity to the primary database.

      Here is my issue.   We have a couple of low volume connections.  During the night, when the volume is extremely low, for some reason, we failover to the replicated database.   It is acting as if it doesn’t have any activity for a 2-3 hours, then it performs the failover.

      I have spoken with our Oracle database folks.   There is no connection timeout on their side.   My question:  is there a timeout setting somewhere on Cloverleaf or on UNIX for ODBC connections?

          Tom,

          ODBC is still over a TCP/IP port and so if there are any port level timeouts at the O/S level specified that will come into play.

          Of course if the system to which you are connecting (or a firewall in between) does not honor the keep-alives (assuming they are set on your system which I suspect they are) or disconnects due to lack of activity in some other manner…
