    I am trying to avoid a potential issue with our License.

    So I’m sorry for the long explanation, especially on a Friday.

    We are in the process of upgrading from CL 5.3r3 to CL 5.8

    I have built a Test CL 5.8 environment on new hardware (separate from our current 5.3 install). I added the license to this 5.8 environment and have been testing for several months now.

    Our plan for go-live was to completely shut down our 5.3 environment. Change the IP address of the 5.8 Test server to match the IP of the 5.3 server. And start this up as our new Prod server.

    Our CL support is through a third party re-seller, who told us that our license would become invalid if we change the IP address (because the HostId would change).

    Well we were able to isolate our 5.8 server from the network, change it’s IP address and reboot the server. I was then able to start the hcihostserver & hcimonitord, and even start up some processes/threads (with no connections). And when I ran the hcihostid command I got back the same HostId as before the IP change.

    So my questions are:

    What is the HostId based on? IP / Mac address / Processor

    What changes to the server (hardware or software) will invalidate a license or change the HostId?

      Hi Joe,

      hcihostid was always based on the MAC addresss. So as long as you didn’t change network cards you would be OK.

      This was supposed to change on later versions CloverLeaf but I don’t know which version (if any) was the cutover.

      If your 5.8 install is still working then I would guess its still using the MAC address.
