I have just upgraded from XP to Windows 7.  In checking out the engine functionality, everything seems to be working well with the exception of one issue.

From the ‘Runtime Launchbar’, if I try to start the shell window I get an error that says:

“Windows cannot find ‘telnet’.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

For those running Windows 7, is there a configuration or setting somewhere in Clover or is this possible a Windows 7 firewall type issue?  Has anyone experienced this and figured out how to correct it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

I recent upgraded to Windows 7 and found that telnet is not installed by default.  Follow these instructions from Microsoft TechNet below and see if it solves your issue.  Worked like a charm for me.

To install Telnet Client on Windows 7 or Windows Vista

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.On the Control Panel Home page, click Programs.

3.In the Programs and Features section, click Turn Windows features on or off.

4.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

5.In the Windows Features list, select Telnet Client, and then click OK.

      Greetings,

We had upgraded from XP SP3 to Win7 SP1 and have the same issue.

However, I checked my settings as you indicate and they agree with your values.   Interestingly, I can run telnet from a DOS window just fine.

Both 5.7.2.0 and 5.8.5.0 (we have dual roots) both fail for the same error.

Not a show stopper for us right now.

I would suggest Mike that you write up a Lawson Case and report it as a problem.  My guess is that some hard-wired XP path in the jar(s) need to be changed for Win7.

Let us know how it comes out.

      Thanks for posting this problem.

      Greetings again!

Well, I can report a fix for those of us who upgraded from XP to Win7 for this problem and running in 64 bit mode.  Kudos to a Windows geek friend for this solution!

      Solution: Copy the telnet.exe module:

            From:  C:WindowsSystem32

            to:      C:WindowsSysWOW64

Then test by running the shell window widget from the IDE.

Error might be based on looking in the “64” executable stack on Windows versus “32” bit stack (again I am NOT a Windows guy – just a guess).

      Now works for us.

      Hope this helps you out!

Hi all, thanks for posting the solution.

I am still having an issue.

When click Shell Window in IDE, Telnet launches, displays IP for my server, pause for 2 or 3 sec then display ‘:’, then the window closes.

Any ideas? I have tried removing telnet, using putty, using other tools, and have searched the forums fairly well.

      Thanks for any advice.

Well, an update… Telnet is not enabled on our server… But I got putty to work. All seems to be working now.

Here is some information from the release notes from CIS 6.0.1.

Turning on the Windows 7 Telnet feature

Windows 7 does not turn on Telnet support by default. This affects the installed Cloverleaf IDE and fails to start the Shell Window function for remote connections to UNIX host servers.

To turn on the Windows 7 Telnet Client: Click the Start menu and select Control Panel. Click Programs. Under Programs and Features, select Turn Windows features on or off. On the Windows Features dialog, select the Telnet Client check box. Click OK.
