Java for TPS

I don’t see a lot on the forum about using Java for TPS.  I did a bit of testing to compare performance between Tcl and Java TPS (re-writing the same proc to run identically between the two systems) and there was a fairly negligible difference in speed.  (For the curious, Java won by a few seconds per ten thousand messages).  I ran the tests on 5.7r1.

I am curious what lessons people have learned or pitfalls experienced when converting Tcl TPS to Java.  Has anyone done much of this?

    Thanks

    Mitch

      Mitchell,

I have not had any need so far – everything I have needed to do has been doen well and easily in Tcl.

I would really need Java bad to consider adding it to our environment.

Probably the main pitfall is that it will be more difficult to hire new analysts to support your Cloverleaf systems. Of the people who are experienced with Cloverleaf, a much higher percentage has TCL experience than Java experience.

From the Java code I’ve done in Cloverleaf, Java seemed to be more sensitive to memory corruption than TCL did. We would have Java procs that would start crashing after the processes had been up for a long time, and this didn’t seem to happen with the TCL procs.
