Has anyone any insight about moving from Mckesson Support to direct support from Lawson.  My company bought our Cloverleaf license from Mckesson and our support as well.  There have been no issues to speak of but I want to consider moving straight to Lawson for support just because it seems to make a great deal of sense to me for all the obvious reasons.  I do have to make a case to my supervisors who seem reluctant.

Can anyone share any pitfalls to be aware of as well as any advantages that they experienced in doing this?

    Thanks

    John

I was in the same situation as you. When I talked to our contacts at Lawson about this, they recommended that we keep McKesson support even though we’re switch from McKesson to Epic for most of our other systems.

I would recommend that you talk to Lawson to hear their recommendations.

We at Sanford Health moved from McKesson to Lawson support about 4 years ago. Both support groups are great but moved over to Epic and thought it would be a good idea to just go with the Lawson support since we didn’t interface with many McKesson products anymore. Our contacts at Lawson did reccomend that we stay with McKesson but we had a call with both groups and let them know that we didn’t have any issues but just prefered to go with Lawson.

But like I mentioned above, support from both have been great.

Used to have my support through Quadramed, moved it to Healthvision a few years ago, been a very pleasant experience.  I like working directly with the software provider instead of third party resellers.

To those of you who posted a reply, did you find that annual support was any cheaper through Lawson (at that time) vs. McKesson, or was the cost about the same?  I’m not asking for actual dollar amounts, but how did the two vendors compare?  Thanks!

If I remember rightly Lawson(Healthvision at the time) matched the price we were paying to Quadramed, so the price stayed the same.

      Hi All

We are looking into also going directly to LAWSON support instead of McKesson, because of going to EPIC for our ADT system.

Fielding all concerns and Pros of doing so.

We moved from McKesson to Lawson (Heathvision) direct support at the end of 2009, and couldn’t be happier with the decision.

There were a couple of reasons for the change:

1.) we had replaced all of our McKesson products with other products and it didn’t make sense to keep support active for just one product…when they weren’t even the developers of that product.

2.) updates to Cloverleaf took too long for McKesson to certify for their products.  Why wait for certification of products if we no longer have any of their products?

McKesson support was adequate and they responded well to any calls I made.  They were a great partner with us for many years.  However, to us, it made more business sense to get answers “straight from the horse’s mouth.”

Do you know how they compared price-wise?  I don’t need specific $ amounts, just want to know if Lawson is the same, lower, higher than McKesson.  Although we’re moving away from McKesson, we’re still using some of their products but it’s all about the Benjamin’s here.

When we checked, the price was the same. If you do switch, you’ll probably want to wait for your McKesson support to expire before you start paying Lawson. That way you won’t be paying double.
