Has anyone had a problem like this? If so, what was the solution.

We have the AIX Cloverleaf server in Atlanta, GA and users located in various locations around the country. When using the IDE the response time is extremely slow. It takes up to 3 minutes to open the HL7 configurator, 1 to 2 minutes to open the Network Monitor or Network Configurator. Saving can be just as slow. The testing tool won’t even return any results.

I can use the testing tool by copying the command and entering it on a shell window and I get an immediate result so it seems to be something with the IDE displays.

    Any ideas?

      Tom,

My guess is you either have a VPN or Firewall issue (maybe like too shor a timeout for the turnaround thus multiple retries slowing things down).

It could be a SAN issue (if you are using one) particularly if the SAN administrator did not size properly.

It could be related to the IDE but I would not jump to that conclusion first.

when’s the last time that you cycled the gui connctions (hciss -k h/hciss -s h)?  we have a cron job setup on our AIX to cycle every Sunday at 3:00am.

I have seen horrible slowness and frozen IDE performance when more than one instance of the host server is running at the same time.

On our AIX boxes, I do the following to see if more than one instance of the host server is running at one time then kill them and restart a single instance

      ps -ef | grep CloverleafHostServer

I’m not sure but using ports in the ephermal range seem to be the potential cause why this happens for us.

We did not know about the ephermal range ports being off limits until the multiple instance of the host server brought it to our attention.

On our AIX platform what that means is mostly for us to never us a port number above 32K.

Thanks Russ. I’ve confirmed that only 1 instance of the host server is running.

Paul, We restart the gui once a month but the slowness exists even immediately after the restart. Thanks for the idea though. Maybe I should consider a more frequent restart.

Jim, I think you’re probably right. We’ve tried working with support and changed a variety of client.ini and server.ini settings without success. I’ll need to work with our network team to get this resolved. Thanks everyone for all the ideas.

      Tom,

We had the same problem.  After we eliminated all of the possibilities suggested here we had our field service people check the workstation and compare it to one in the same room that had no issues.  They could not see any significant differences.  In the end the field service folks installed a new workstation and installed the Cloverleaf client it and the problem went away.

Probably a long shot but also make sure the client IDE matches the version of the server especially if there has been a rev2 patch or something installed.

Here are the steps I have used to see if the client IDE is the same version as our Cloverleaf 5.6rev2 server:

open IDE ->  Help -> Support -> Client tab -> look for comment that says

      Version: 5.6PRev2

Did anyone ever find a definite cause here?

We’ve just installed 5.8.5 on Linux and have the same issue.
