The normal process log file has echos from Tcl procs and information from the engine based on your EO Config settings as well as ERR and WARN messages.
The error log file only has the WARN and ERROR messages.
How long between cycling is dependent upon what you want in the way of size and/or time span (which can be affected by you ‘normal’ EO Config state).
How long you hold archives is really dependent on how quickly you are aware of issues which the process and error logs can assist. If you are aware of issues quickly then a shorter archive period will wokr (you can have differing archive periods per process). On the other hand if some issues are not reported for up to 3 months, you might decide to archive for longer – or not.
Each facility needs to decide what works best for them – Cloverleaf provides the functionality for you to adapt to your needs.
Typically it is a pretty good idea to synchronize your log archiving with your SMAT archiving as much as possible (including the time of day cycling takes place) as sometimes it is necessary to use both the SMAT files and the logs (and potentially the Error DB) to troubleshoot an issue.
