Monitor Daemon Shutting Down

Running Cloverleaf 5.3 on AIX. Twice in the last couple months our Monitor Daemon has crashed and I think it is my fault, and here is why I think that is and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation to fix / prevent the crash: when connected from home over VPN running the client with the Network Monitor open on my laptop, the first time I lost my network connection which froze the app and I had to kill it in Task Manager. Two days ago, the VPN timed out, and same thing, app froze and had to kill it in task manager. It appears a day or two later after those incidents, when opening the monitor or doing a refresh, the Monitor Daemon crashes and just needs to be started. Thoughts / Recommendations other than not losing the connection when at home?
