HI-IQ Charge Interface

Seeing an odd character in smat. Also the message appears to have carriage returns and Lie feeds after every segment. HI_IQ says this is their standard HL7 message. My question is besides removing the carriage return in TCL to get the segment list by splitting the $msg by r, would I do that first or remove the line feeds first or is there a better way of accomplishing this. The company states any change to their standard HL7 message is custom coding and incurs a charge, so i have been charged with fixing this to a more palatable format. Plus the odd character at the end I see in smat.
