We recently converted our test engine from 5.3 to 5.7.  I had to glean some info from this web site on how to fill out the timeout handling and the TPS Inbound Reply since the procs I used in 5.3 didn’t work in 5.7. Now I’ve noticed something else I missed and wonder if I need to go back and re-do some threads.

On the drop down for Trx id determination Format, I just picked HL7 which is what I picked for 5.3.  For some reason it didn’t register that it didn’t ask for what version of HL7 or the variant and the edit button was grayed.  So I set everything up with just HL7.

I’ve heard no hue and cry yet, but I was still wondering why the button was grayed.  I changed the selection from HL7 on one thread to Field Routing and there it all was.

So my question is, does it matter?  All the variants that were set up by my predecessors really weren’t any different from standard HL7 so I quit setting up a variant unless there was a segment I had to build from scratch.  Is it ok to just use HL7 or should I go back and re-do everything using Field Routing (which, to me anyway wasn’t an obvious choice when a more obvious choice of HL7 was listed)?

          Mark,

          No – you are OK.

In 5.7 and later, they took away the requirement to specify the Variant for HL/7 messages that use the standard MSH-9 for Message/Event Type based routing since that field is in the same relative location for all HL/7 messages.

So just selecting HL/7 will still allow normal routing assuming you want to route on MSH-9 which most of the time you do.

You should not have to change any routes or anything else related to routing.

Great, thanks!  I thought I’d messed up.
