Java not required? (CL 5.6 on AIX 5.3)

The Pre-Installation guide for earlier versions used to state the required Java2 Platform. CL 5.6 Pre-Installation Instructions states nothing except:
“Before installation, read and follow the pre-installation instructions for your operating system.”
Going to “AIX 5L v5.2 and 5.3 Scratch Install” yields nothing.
So Java no longer required or was it missed out?
