We use the Raima keydump utility on our existing version 5.5 install to quickly count the number of records in the recovery database, (OS is Red Hat Linux)

    ../exec/databases> keydump rlog rlogMid.key

We then grep the output for lines containing active records (“DB_AD”).

However, the keydump supplied with version 5.7 doesn’t create any output for us.

Can someone with 5.7 give this a try in their exec/databases and see if the utility creates any output? We want to see if it’s a difference with the new version of Raima or an environment issue with our new upgrade.

    Thanks for the help,

    Jerry

Any reason you don’t just simply ‘hcidbdump -r | wc -l’ and then subtract 8 (to account for header lines) to know how many messages are in the recovery DB?

      Jim,

Our existing process uses this because it’s going through one less layer.

I have no problem switching to hcidbidump, but I’m more concerned about something in the CL 5.7 version that doesn’t work as the CL 5.5 version; as we evaluate our new upgraded environment, we want to know what’s causing the discrepancy.

      Thanks,

      Jerry

Gotcha; just curious.  Unfortunately, we don’t have 5.7 installed, so we can’t provide you with any feedback regarding the Raima ‘keydump’ command on that version.

      Good Luck.

      Jerry,

We are testing CL 5.7 Rev2 on AIX 5.3.  The keydump utility does not list Recovery Database entries here either.  In an earlier release we looked at using keydump instead of hcidbdump because it worked even when Lock Manager was not running.  We decided to stick with the supported method of accessing the databases.

The alerts package has been enhanced a lot in 5.7 — you may be able to get the alert you need without an external script.  It appears alerts have access to counts in the Error Database and to several queues, but unfortunately not directly to the entire Recovery Database.
