Free Java HL7 MLP Sender/Receiver

Always nice to have an extra tool in the bag so thanks for sharing.

I have typically used hcitptest on the back end that comes with cloverleaf to do instantaneous on the spot MLP TCP/IP connectivity testing.

The capability can be handy in certain situations.

I took a quick glance at the URL.

If this is free and does what the web page says, that is amazing and could shake some folks to the core that sell integration software.

I’m going to bed now, but will try to find time to actually download and install and test drive.

Should be interesting to see if the clovertech moderators allow this post, or if they view it as a competing product and delete the post.

I saw a reference to GNU and read their manifesto decades ago and understand they think software should be free like the air we breathe.

GNU has provided the world with some really nice free software and I will be interested to see if that is who developed this tool when I have more time to take a closer look.

If you look at the authors own website you will find a later version on the tool – version 1.0.1 that will run on Java 5 +.

If using something like this in a business environment make sure you rae complying with the rules of GPL license version 2.0

Good call, Charlie.  The GNU GPL was originally crafted by Richard Stallman, and the Free Software Foundation, and while many products license under the GPL are free the concept that Mr. Stallman had was not really about no-cost software but was much more geared toward open source (in other words, the ideas and code behind the software is “FREE”-ly available to be expanded upon).  It is very possible to license software under the GNU GPL that is, in fact, sold as long as the source code is available and properly credited.  It is also possible to license software under the GPL  *FOR PRIVATE USE ONLY*.

This is not intended as a lecture, as I am probably preaching to the choir, but more a matter of an expansion on what Charlie said.

HL7 Browser also has the basic ability to send and receive HL7 messages
