      I have a company sending me HL7 version 2.4 which leaves the EVN field blank. But the company receiving the message wants the EVN field to also have ADT_0A1. Does anyone have a script that can help me please?

          Sebastian,

          COPY …MSH.#9.[1] (this is the Event Type component of the Message Type – the A08 of ADT^A08 to …EVN.#1.

          The elipses above is the address path leading the segments and the reset of the notation may not be perfect but essentially you are taking the second component of the MSH-9 field (Message/Event Type) and placing a copy in the first EVN field.

            thank you Jim, I’ve tried it and I only get a partial message with the EVN field.

              Are you COPYing everything else (either with PATHCOPYs or individual COPYs)?

                Did it with pathcopy but it’s not working. I just don’t know what to do now.  I’ll try to do it with copy.

                  So you did PATHCOPYs for the PID, NK1, PV1, PV2, and OBX segments?

                  A PATHCOPY for the EVN won’t work since there is no EVN segment to PATHCOPY from.

                    Still getting the same result Jim, the pathcopy doesn’t work for anything but the MSH. I was able to get the A08 into the event type code but that’s from doing the COPYING.

                      Well I don’t use PATHCOPY much myself (I primarily use individual field COPYs).

                      However, I would think PATHCOPY should work.

                      So did you have an Xlate which did create a message but without the EVN segment? If so all you need to do is add the EVN COPYs.

                        EVN segment has always been there.  It’s just the field for Event Type code that’s missing.

                          Sebastien,

                          So if you have an Xlate that is building everything but the EVN-1 field,

                          Just add the COPY for the EVN-1 field from the MSH-9.1 component and that should not remove the other segments following the EVN
