      Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the following scenario:

We have outpatient clinics using Centricity EMR/PM. A patient will be registered in Centricity and seen by the doctor at the outpatient clinic. The doctor orders a lab so the patient heads over to the hospital. At the hospital the patient is again registered in Meditech and an A04 is sent to Centricity. Centricity uses LinkLogic to match up the A04 to the patient record.

Issue: How to get the account number (V#) on an order that is sent from Centricity to Meditech. An account number is not generated in Meditech until the registration is complete – hence the A04. The Centricity order will flow to Meditech before the patient arrives at the hospital and registers.

Proposed Solution: Hold orders from Centricity and then match them up against the A04 messages coming from Meditech. If a patient match is found then add the account number to the order message and send to Meditech.

Has anyone done this already? Any suggestions?

      Thanks!

          Lori,

Many systems will do a ‘mini registration’ when receiving Orders, Results, etc. from a foreign system before a Patient is registered/Admitted.

When the actual Registration/Admission occurs on the receiving system, the Order/Result is appropriately connected.

Check with MediTech and see if they can do this.

Maybe that will take care of the issue.

In my opinion, this is an application issue and most modern applications which are written with the understanding they will have to share the world with other applications have the ability to ‘suspend’ unsolicited information until the patient arrives.

            Lori,

We are looking at doing something very similar.  I am curious where you ended up with this project.

            Thanks,

            Luke
