running Linux on Intel server

Who all run Cloverleaf on a Intel server with Linux as the OS? Have you had any problems? How does it compare to running Linux on an IBM pSeries server?

In general, have any of you had problems with Linux. We have a sys admin who tells us that if Linux becomes corrupt, you have to do a scratch install. We had a server (non Cloverleaf) where that happened and it took 2 days to get it back online. He tells me it’s much simpler with AIX.

  We are currently running on Linux (just over a year with 241 days since last reboot) and have not experienced any problems with Linux or Cloverleaf. We did have a bad controller card which did corrupt the drives but we maintain a spare server and it only took me less than half the day to re-install and have all my interfaces back to operational.

  We have two boxes running Red Hat ES 4.0 connected to a SAN for storage. Live box has been up 163 days, and the test box 159 days. Not sure why it took so long to rebuild. It takes about 1-2 hrs to install LINUX from scratch. Then the system needs to be configured, other software installed, etc… Which will add time of course.
  
  We are on two HP DL560’s four dual-core. A bit of overkill but better that the single CPU DEC Alpha we used to have…
  
  The LINUX boxes have been more stable that the Alpha–or I should say Cloverleaf has been more stable on LINUX than on the Alpha.
