      Hello

I have setup a FTP/fileset outbound interface to send HL7 ADT messages to a unix server.

All works beautifully but when I view the messages on the unix server, it is there except for the entire MSH segment.

Any ideas??  I tried in both ASCII and binary formats.

      Thanks for any suggestions.

I figured it out – message was not displaying correctly using a cat command??  Not sure why but doing a more showed all segments – all data is there..

Both cat and pg have this display feature.

When you’re in a telnet session or at the unix system prompt somewhere you’re working with ASCII character stuff. HL7 messages are made up of segments terminated with carriage-returns (r) and the messages are terminated with a line-feed (n). A carriage-return (remember typewriters?) will send the cursor to the beginning column of the row (all the way to the left of the screen). The cursor will remain on the same line, and the next characters will overwrite those already on the line.

cat and pg pass all the characters through to the screen. more blocks some non-printing characters like carriage-returns but allows through line terminators. (n in unix).
