Hello,

We are in the middle of changing platforms, Unix to Linux and jumping from 3.7.1 to 3.5.4.

The way I understand the failover process is that each server has it’s own physical IP. According to the folks who set up the new servers, there is also a virtual IP assigned to the application. The plan was to have our inbound interfaces configured to point to the virtual IP which would ‘float’ between the two new servers. We tested this theory, however we cannot make an inbound connection to the virtual IP. Has anyone heard of this or

done this before?

  We do this with AIX.
  
  We have a floating ip address and dns name.
  
  ie-prod-if 172.111.111.123
  
  When we switch between boxes, the unix admins disable this ip address on one box and enable on the other box.
  
  Since all the interfaces connect to us by dns name there is no need to flush caches and routing tables etc.
