in XML

I have an XML file coming into a translate that contains carriage returns/line feeds embedded as in the attribute values.  When trying to test the translate with the testing tool, it’s complaining about unknown segments following those embedded values.

For example, I’m getting a node with the following attribute and value:

I’m getting the following error:

[0:TEST] [mid:0x150a90c] unknown segment ‘

Ot’ — ignored.

What’s the proper way to handle these embedded characters?
