I am creating HL7 2.3.1 XLT translations from VXU^V04 to MDM^T02. My inbound variant has repeatable [{NK1}] and Z segments should be passed as is in to the outbound variant.

Since I am new to Cloverleaf, could someone please advice how to create the new NK1 and Z segments in the outbound variant.

    Thanks

    Shad

Open the HL/7 Configurator pointing to the variant you have named for the outbound.

        Go to the Messages Tab.

Go to the message you want (MDM^T02). Based on the specification you have for the Outbound Message structure (you do have specifications – right? 🙂), add the needed segments with the appropriate characterisitics (Repeating/Optional) at the proper place.

Now highlight one of the new segments and go to the segments tab. Make sure all of the fields you need exist in the segment – adding or deleting or moving fields as necessary.

        Repeat for all needed segments.

If there are User defined fields (fields for which there are no HL/7 equivalents), then go to the fields tab and add those, then return to the proper segments tab and refer to those new fields.

Once that is done, if you already have an Xlate defined, do a reconfigure in the Xlate so that the changes are picked up.

Since you probably do not yet have an outbound message, you cannot test the variant in the Tester. But if you think it is correct, go ahead and test your Xlate creating an outbound message and have it verified.

Thanks Jim. I am able to add NK1 (optional & repeatable) segments on outbound variant. When I iterate the NK1 segments, the first NK1 segment repeats instead of showing the next NK1 segment.

Most likely your basis is incorrect.

With the new GUI you should be able to select the correct basis in the Xlate but to make sure where the basis is here is a trick I sometimes use: If you have a message (where there are the repititions you want), run the message through the HL/7 tester (make sure to use the proper variant); turn the tester noise level (detail) to 2 or higher; and observe where the count changes in the field’s address path.

Of course, don’t forget you need to place your repetition counter in the appropriate position in botht he Source and Destination field address paths.
