We have 2 Linux servers, one live and a cold standby.  As it is right now, our failover process is still manual.  It involves changing ip addresses in addition to getting temprary site licenses e.t.c  Does anyone have Linux servers in an automatic failover configuration.  I would be willing to work with someone to come up with something.

          Yes .. we do ..

First thing is to get a permanent  key for your fail over machine ..

add it to the license.dat file ..

(you will have 2 two entries .. one for production, other for fail over)

          then .. setup a mirror volume (/hci or /quovadx) using DRDB ..

(we use a dedicated cable between two machines)

          lastly configure heartbeat…

          off you go ..

          couple of links..

            Thanks Dennis,

I will give this a look and see how it goes.  I might be coming back to you if I run into a bind – is that OK?

            Thanks again,  Daniel

I had a simular problem, my solution might work.  I had a license key simular to Quovadx which was sensitive to the mac address.  So my fail over server ran a script where I would switch the mac address under Linux and reboot.  After a short interruption (relative to boot time and service start up) the new system would be online and the down system would be taken off the network by just unplugging the cable.  This hasn’t been tried with Quovadx yet, but then again it might not hurt to try and have this solution as a fail safe in case the power goes out in Quovadx customer support.
