I am receiving 201 error messages for a particular outbound thread.  The messages being sent from Cloverleaf to the receiving system are going across fine it appears.  This error is being generated on Cloverleaf when the receiving system sends back an acknowledgement to Cloverleaf.

The acknowledgement message that the receiving system is sending back to Cloverleaf is one that the receiving system has manually created.  There is something in that acknowledgement message that Cloverleaf doesn’t like, obviously.  I think that the acknowledgement must contain at least the minimum “requirements” for Cloverleaf to accept it and send the next message, but when Cloverleaf goes to process this message, it doesn’t like something.

Does anyone know what could possibly be the issue with the acknowledgement message?  How do I explain the reason Cloverleaf continues to send the messages even though this error occurs internally on Cloverleaf for the acknowledgements?  I am trying to identify the issue so that I can point it out to the receiving system.

Here is what the acknowledgement looks like.  I have the validate_hl7ack proc on the Outbound tab of the outbound thread.

            Jim,

The log file for this process shows this:

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:lpc_professional_chg_out] no-match: no more phrases to try

I see this many times in the log file (for a period of time).  It looks like it is there for every message that is sent to the receiving system.

Further in the log file I see this.  I don’t know if it has anything to do with the error above.  I do know the person on the receiving system has been trying different things on his side, so, he has been turning this interface off and on on his side.

              Ariba,

              The

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:lpc_professional_chg_out] no-match: no more phrases to try

entry in the log is telling you the Acknowledgement is probably not formatted properly (probably invalid mlp encapsulation).

To prove this, turn the engine noise level all the way up and look at the hex deump of the acknowledgement. Make sure the encapsulation is correct.

If it is not correct, take a snapsot of the log entry (the hex dump of the acknowledgement) and show it ti the receiving system and tell them to fix their acknowledgement.

                OK, Jim.

                I will do this.

You are telling me to turn on the enable_all for this outbound thread, correct?

This exact same thing is happening to us and it’s as Jim said it was.  I didn’t do “enable_all” althought that would work, but it’s overkill.  I turned on “enable_pdl” and that showed what we needed to see.  In our case, the vendor was sending an extra x’0a’ at the end.  Here’s an example:

                      [pdl :read:DBUG/2:   crhbb_ao_9] Events: E 0, R 8, W 0

                        Ariba,

Yes I would NOT turn on enable_all on a production thread for more than a minute or two. As Kevin said that produces way too much information for your purposes.

Apparently this is in your Production environment. Did this problem not occur in the Test environment?

In any case, find out what you are receiving in hex and go from there.

OK.  I hadn’t read your response, Jim.  I will do like Kevin said and see if I get the hex dump info.

I’ll let you know what I see.

                            Thanks,

I do not have an enable_pdl in my list.

When I go to Control, Full, EO config, EO Alias, I only see the following choices:

                              binary_message_only

                              disable_all

                              enable_all

                              enable_all_info

                              enable_all_info_1

                              enable_all_info_2

                              enable_all_info_3

                              message_details

                              meta_message_only

BTW- This is in my test environment. This is something we are trying to get working before it goes to live.

                              We are on version 5.2.1P

                              Thanks,

You would need to define an EO-Config for just PDL display.

Since it is your test environment, set enable_all for the outbound thread and resend one message.

Then set to disable_all (to turn the noise level off).

Then look at the PDL hex dump of the acknowledgement in the process log.

If you can cycle your log first and shut down your inbound thread first you can limit the amount of noise in the log you have to look through.

Another way is to use hcitcptest. Shut down your outbound thread, then connect with hcitcptest, type in any kind of nonsense and see what the hex dump of the returned ackowledgement is.

OK, Jim.  I will try this.

I just looked at the process log file for this thread and this is what I see.  I haven’t done what you suggested yet. I just went to check the log file because I could see that messages had stopped flowing to the receiving system for this interface.

Is this helpful in any way??

I think you have 2 errors going on here.  You first have the PDL error, not matching the phrase).  Then you have a script that’s getting an error because it’s having a problem.

I don’t understand why you don’t have enable_pdl on your list for the EO config.

Well it certainly looks like the validation proc does not like the acknowledgement (or lack of it) it received.

I am firmly convinced the receiving system is not sending proper acknowledgements.

But you will probably still need to get the hex dump of one to prove it to the system sending the acknowledgement.

This is the acknowlegement the receiving system is sending back to Cloverleaf.

                                          Ariba,

If you look closely you will see there are a couple of flaws in the acknowledgement.

Here is what I would do:

Take a snapshot of the hex dump of the acknowledgement received.

Give the snapshot to the receiving system folks (the ones sending the acknowledgement) and tell them to fix it – it is not correct. If they are competent, they will see what is wrong and make the correction.

Then I would turn off the connection to the system. When they say they have it fixed, I would use hcitcptest to verify it is correct before turning the connection back on.

OK.  I have done that.  The receiving system seems to see where they are putting in the two 0b values at the beginning of the message. I think the programmer has even identified the fact that the ending portion of his acknowledgement is not correct.

We will test again after he makes changes.

                                            Thanks,

                                              Jim,

The receiving system has made a change to possibly fix the issue with their acknowledgement.  We are trying to test this again.

When I turn on the enable_all for the outbound thread that sends the messages to the receiving system, I just see

                                              Loading…………………………………………………………………………..

                                              ………………………………………………….

Any idea why I can ‘t see any output here?  There are messages waiting to be sent through this interface.

                                              thanks,

                                              Ariba

                                                Ariba,

If you have messages queued up, I’ll bet you have saturated the log. This will take a while to send all of that log data to your client.

You might want to turn of enable_all now and let the log settle down.

Either that or go to the actual exec/processes directory and using a text viewer view the log file at the host rather than from the Client GUI.

To turn off enable_all, I just do a disable_all, right?

That is what I did.  It’s the only way I know to turn this off.

enable_pdl is not a default EO that is provided with Cloverleaf – I suspect somebody created this for you.
