We are in the middle of an upgrade from QDX5.2 to QDX5.4.  We are on AIX5.2 and for 2 of the 3 sites, it takes over 10 minutes to shutdown 1 process and another 10 minutes to startup 1 process.  So for 1 process it takes a total of 20 minutes to make a change.

This is very unacceptable!  McKesson and Quovadx have looked at everything, but still a solution has not been found.  They loaded QDX5.4.1 hoping that would correct the issue, but it did not.  We tried using hci commands vs. gui screen, still takes the same amount of time.  We tried copying the site over, changing the ports and removing all of the code, so everything would be raw pass through, but still having same issue.

Can anyone else come up with any other suggestions to try or possible fixes?

      Thanks,

I am surprised that between McKesson and QDX that they could not find a solution. Who worked on it from QDX?

One thing I would check is the user limits in the AIX configuration.

Such as how many files user hci can have open at any one time or the max number of processes hci can run at one time.

I don’t know the settings off the top of my head but will check when I get into the office.

Thank you Michael.  I don’t know who McKesson worked with at Quovadx.

Try ulimit -a and see what your settings are. Here are mine.

              hci rs6kg% ulimit -a

              time(seconds)

Does there happen to be thousands of messages in the recovery DB when you’re starting the process up?

Can you look at your resolv.conf file in /etc …. we had a put an entry in that looks like ….. nameserver xxx.xx.xx.xxx …. this may solve your problem

Thank you all.  Michael we had already changed that, but it didn’t help.  It was the adding the Name Server IP address into the name server field that corrected this issue.  All of my processes now shutdown and restart quickly, as they should.

Try running top or what ever command you use to view system information.  As you start things up.  This sounds like something is running low, maybe disk io or memory swap outs. Something along those lines will account for problems like this.
