We have a DNS alias that points to our Prod server. Sending systems are configured to use this alias (except for one that can only use an IP address). To failover, the threads are shutdown on the Prod server and brought up on the backup server and the network folks repoint the alias to the backup server. Our first test went quite well, although we learned that some Windows systems had to have their local DNS cache flushed in order to pick up the new IP address of the alias. The outbound (from Cloverleaf) side is straightforward except for two systems that have their inbound connections restricted to a specific host/IP (Pyxis) or set of IP addresses (Theradoc). A one-time minor reconfig was needed for Theradoc. Pyxis is still trying to figure out if it can use the alias.
Our few firewalled connections can originate from either host’s IP.
